Data Publishing Webinar

Our recent updates via Data Forwards covered the theme of data publishing and citation. Here is another good resource for you to stay current on data publishing.

The RDAWDS Publishing Data IG organized a first webinar (1:23) covering the topic of data publishing. Six speakers representing data centers/archives, publishers, and research institutes talk about data publishing workflows, business models, and the design for an infrastructure to link data and publications.

Presentation slides are also available.

RDA Term Collection Wiki

Did you know RDA (Research Data Alliance) has a semantic wiki?

The RDA Foundation and Terminology Working Group has been exploring the RDA Term Collection Wiki (Semantic Mediawiki application). You can use this wiki to learn definitions and meaning of data-related terms. You can help building this wiki by adding categories and terms.

Research Data Alliance (RDA) Third Plenary Meeting

RDA Meeting: The Data Sharing Community, Dublin, Ireland, 26 to 28 March 2014

We’ve posted several announcements about the various activities about RDA at Data Forwards. Below is the latest information about a forthcoming RDA meeting in Dublin, Ireland in March.

Data is the very foundation of research, and each year the quantity and velocity of data produced increases. Sharing of research data has the potential to revolutionise the way research is conducted, accelerating discovery and improving society; but sharing research data globally is challenging.

The RDA (Research Data Alliance) is now one year old. It is a global, grass-roots organisation dedicated to developing the tools, infrastructure, services, standards and practices that the research community needs to share and exchange its data treasures.

The third RDA plenary meeting is focused on taking the global partnerships built in the data sharing community through the RDA’s activities to date, combining these with existing infrastructure and best practices across the data sharing community, and enabling the community to drive forward the changes needed for global data exchange. This plenary meeting is about exploiting RDA’s work to date to its full potential.

RDA Plenary Meeting: Conference Round-up by Carly Strasser

RDA Plenary Meeting: Conference Round-up by Carly Strasser

This week nearly 400 data nerds flooded the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC, for the second Plenary Meeting of the Research Data Alliance. I was among those nerds, and I’ll review some highlights of the #RDAplenary in my next blog post. First, however, I want to provide an overview of this thing called RDA…..

In last week’s post, I outlined the basic structure of the Research Data Alliance, a group intent on enabling international data sharing and collaboration. I attended the recent RDA 2nd Plenary in Washington, DC last week, and will share a few insights below….

2nd Research Data Alliance Plenary Meeting: Washington, DC

RDA Second Plenary Meeting: Open Research Data … breaking down barriers

Scientists, research data infrastructure providers, research data practitioners, policy-makers and research data stakeholders from all over the world will gather at RDA’s second bi-annual plenary meeting, taking place from 16th to 18th September 2013 in the esteemed National Academy of Sciences, Washington DC, US. The meeting will provide existing and new and aspiring RDA community members an opportunity to conduct business and make progress on their plans and deliverables.

The plenary will be a forum to demonstrate the value of RDA and to receive feedback from the broader research and policy communities. RDA members and plenary participants will get an update on both the governing and technical (Working & Interest Groups) activities since March 2013 (RDA Launch). RDA will leverage on the plenary to continue to define and build relationships with initiatives and organizations that share the same vision and can mutually benefit from engaging with each other.
